Tas-Salvatur Hill, Gozo – Hike With A Baby

Tas-Salvatur Hill is located on the outskirts of Marsalforn (Gozo). If you’re in the area with your trekking boots on, give it a go! Short but challenging (towards the end) hike with amazing views from the top.

If you’ve been following my photo blog for a while, you might remember that this is not my first time here. I walked up Tas-Salvatur Hill exactly 2 years ago. This time, however, I brought my baby boy with me. At least 8 kgs of extra weight carried all the way up. If I did it so can you.

Enjoying the last few days  of a beautiful green countryside. Soon all the grass will be cut and the crops harvested leaving the land bare and brown. So trying to savour the beautiful blooming country until I can.

As I’ve said I walked up Tas-Salvatur hill 2 years ago, when I was visiting with my friends. I thought it would be nice to revisit this monument again, but this time with my baby boy. Just to see if I can still manage to walk all the way up. Plus the views from above are simply amazing!

You can leave your car at the Marsalforn car park, which is about 1km away. It is not a long walk up to the Tas-Salvatur hill. It is just a bit steep hill. Proper footwear is essential. Also, I’m not sure if this is a private property or not (as in Malta and Gozo everything seems to be a private property).

I should mention, that there was a barrier at the bottom of the hill, which was probably for the cars not to get any further. Just so you’re aware. I went anyway, because I believe that places like this should be accessible and everyone should have the opportunity to visit it. As long as they behave and don’t pollute or damage the surroundings. Plus judging from the pathway, people visit this place pretty frequently.

Yes, it was a bit windy on the day, as you can probably tell from my messy hair. But that wouldn’t discourage us! Olly was comfortable and protected in the baby carrier. With a hat and extra cover over his head to protect him from the wind and strong sun. Happy baby, happy mama but also happy mama, happy baby. It goes both ways. 🙂

And we made it to the top! Look at the view! Still pretty beautiful for the last week of April! Soon the countryside treks will be exchanged for beach and water related activities. Malta doesn’t have much rainfall from May till October, therefore the countryside becomes really dry and brown. Plus it gets pretty hot during that time of the year as well.

And here is the main reason of our visit – the Statue of the Risen Christ –  6 metres hight and 6 metres wide statue. It’s about five times smaller than the statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, but still pretty awesome.

You can get all the way to the actual statue, but you have to literally climb the last piece. Which is manageable if you’re a little bit adventurous. I tried, but I didn’t manage to get to the statue this time as I found it too dangerous with the baby. I decided to be responsible and not risk any injuries.

When you return to the Marsalforn car park, don’t forget to take a picture at this two-colour bench! I love the idea! Haha. Cannot agree on the colour? Or maybe the bench thinks it’s a chameleon and trying to match the background? 🙂 Either way, pretty cool place for an original picture!
