Doors & Windows of Valletta’s Side Streets

The capital city of Malta and the European Capital of Culture 2018 – Valletta – has a lot to offer to its visitors. Just to highlight a few I would mention the stunning St. John’s Co-Cathedral displaying some of Caravaggio’s paintings, Casa Rocca Piccola – privately owned palace opened to the public, Saluting Battery, beautiful Barrakka Gardens, Manoel Theatre and Fort St. Elmo.

But let’s not forget that there is more to Valletta than all these popular tourist attractions. The other day I decided to wander around the Valletta’s side streets, namely Triq San Pawl, St. Ursula Street, Lvant and St. Barbara Bastion. This area covers maybe one fifth of Valletta, but I was absolutely blown away with what I saw. Just look at all those beautiful facades, doors, windows and balconies that give Valletta its magical feel.

I was walking around for about 2 hours and I felt like Alice in the Wonderland! I cannot believe I never took the time to explore the side streets of Valletta. And believe me, there is more to come.
