Marvellous Wied il-Ghasri

Malta’s sister island Gozo is a very small island covering an area of 67 square kilometres (14 km long and 7.25 km wide), but you would be surprised how many beautiful places there are to visit. And it’s so easy to get to! You just drive up to Cirkewwa, catch a ferry and in about 20-minutes time you arrive in Gozo!

I was lucky enough to visit Gozo twice within the last month and I have to say, the more I go the more I love this little island. Today I would like to show you a marvellous Ghasri Valley also known as Wied il-Gharsi, a little hidden gem just down the hill from Zebbug.

Wied il-Ghasri is a secluded inlet with a tiny pebbly beach wedged between high cliffs. The view of the valley from the top of the cliffs is stunning. The outstanding natural beauty of this place will blow you away. Take your time, it’s a beautiful site.

It’s not very challenging to walk down the steps to reach the small beach. There are about 100+ steps and for sure you will take numerous breaks to take pictures or selfies. But once you there, surrounded by the natural beauty, crystal clear water and hardly any people, you feel like you found a paradise. I recommend you go there earlier in the morning as later on in the day it can get busy with people and divers.

I haven’t gone swimming as the sea was a bit rough on that day, but I have heard and read that a lot of people recommend this bay for swimming and snorkeling so give it a try if you are up to it.

Also don’t forget to look where you walking as you might spot few of these little guys – sunbathing lizards. 😉

There are several ways of getting here. Walk, me and my friends planned a nice 3km walk starting at Xwejni Bay, admiring the unique salt pans on the way and finishing of at the Wied il-Ghasri. You can also get on a bicycle, hire a quad bike or arrive in a car. Just be prepared for a bumpy off-road.
