Valley of Honey
It took me more than 9 (long) years to discover this beautiful valley in Malta. Wied il-Ghasel in Maltese, Valley of Honey in English is a great choice for a winter walk. If anyone ever said that Malta doesn’t have any greenery I think I have just proved them wrong. The Maltese islands are glowing in winter, just look around!
The original intention of my walk was to find a chapel of St Paul the Hermit, which I did, but I never thought of what I am going to see on the way. It took me a while to figure out how to get to it. The path starts, standing on the bridge looking towards the chapel, on your right about 200 meters away walking towards Mosta. It is quite easily accessible. Also, it’s just so quiet and peaceful. I think I met like 4 people during the 3 hours I was walking around (yes I took my time).
The valley is stunning. The moment you get down the steps and walk underneath the bridge you find yourself surrounded by beautiful nature. I love spring for this reason, everything is coming back to life, flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, the grass is greener than green and everything just looks healthy and gorgeous. It just makes me smile and I just want to dance and just celebrate life.
St Paul the Hermit is situated in a natural cave, which gives it its uniqueness. It was closed when I visited, but you can still have a look inside through the security bars.
Please, if you find some time during winter/spring months give this place a chance. It’s so charming valley and the walk is absolutely delightful.
Hi ☺
Thanks for all your information and great pics.
Where exactly do you start on the Honey walk? We would like to do the walk but don’t know where to park and start the hike.
Thanks
I would like to check from where do you start the walk. Is the route accesabile for a 77 year old
Hi Isabelle, the best place to start the walk is from Vjar Ragusa road, very close to the junction of Vjar Ragusa and Vjar il-Qalbiena Mostin. There are few parking places and a sign ‘Dak Li Thisser Jisewwa Bi Flusek Stess’, that’s where you need to start. It is not a hard trek, if you are used to walking and have no problem with number of uneven stone steps you should be fine. 🙂 Hope this helps and have a lovely day. 🙂
Complimenti per il tuo blog.
Vivo a Gozo e presto voglio iniziare a scoprire la linea difensiva inglese.
