Dream Come True: Mermaid Experience
We all have our dreams. Some are crazier than others. I’ve always wanted to be a real life princess or a mermaid. And my dream finally came true at the age of 30! And this photo blog is documenting my awesome experience of being a mermaid for a moment.
It was last year when I heard about the Mermaids’ Club Malta experience the first time. I really wanted to do it, but I guess the timing wasn’t right, so when I saw it on Facebook again this year I told myself ‘you are doing this’ and no postponing! I also wanted an original maternity photo shoot, so this seemed as the perfect option.
Unfortunately I don’t look like a mermaid when I wake up so I needed some help. To start with, I wanted a nice long hair (which I don’t have). At this point I would like to thank Stella Cini for trusting me with her beautiful white wig for the shoot! Thank you so much, you’re awesome!
I also checked some mermaid make up ideas online and decided to buy some fake gemstones to give my look that extra spark. These were from Accessorize Malta and since there were sales it only cost me about €4-5. After sorting out my hair problem I started considering a professional make up artist, because as you may have noticed I don’t really do make up and I didn’t want to risk it.
Luckily I’ve got a friend, Caroline Bond, that lives in Zebbug (Gozo), just 10mins away from the shooting location, who is a make up artist by profession and was more than happy to help me out! If you need a mermaid make up (or any make up) message her, as you can see, she is really good!
After the make up was ready, it was time to do my hair. Thank god I’m surrounded by amazing people and my friend Elena came with me to Gozo to help me and support me through out the shoot. Have I also mentioned that she is a great hair stylist? Just look at what’s she has done for me! Loving the look, 100% mermaid! 🙂
When booking the photoshoot with Mermaids’ Club Malta, Aleksandra, who is the owner & photographer, will let you know, that you’ll be provided with a mermaid crown, bra, tail and fins. She will also give you some nice glitter to enhance the mermaid look.
And how does this all work? Where do you have to go and what do you have to do? Well, I don’t think I mentioned it already, but this unique mermaid experience takes place in Gozo. On the day of my appointment I met with Aleksandra in Xwejni Bay. You will be communicated the location in advance, so you can plan your journey and get there on time. Aleksandra always chooses the location (and I was very pleased with her choice) because she is familiar with the area so she can make sure depending on the weather and events taking place you’ll have a safe and enjoyable experience.
At the location Aleksandra and Elena helped to transform me into a real mermaid by fitting me into the tail, fins, bikini top and crown. Then I got a moment to familiarize myself with my new look and get comfortable with the fits to allow me to sit, lie down and even flip the tail, getting ready for the actual photo shoot. The photography session lasted for about an hour and I was set on a nice rock and in shallow water.
If you wish after the mermaid photos hoot you can even try to swim in your costume for the real life mermaid experience. I have to say I didn’t try it. Being 7 months pregnant I was a bit worried, but the option is there and I would definitely try it if I was you! As when will you have a chance to be a real life mermaid again? Aleksandra, as a mermaid queen, will give you some instructions how to swim with a tail, so don’t worry. 🙂
What should you bring with you?
- swimwear bottom, ideally bright or nude colour to wear underneath the tail
- sunblock (so you don’t get sunburnt)

- water shoes to make moving around the are more comfortable
- a friend to help you throughout the shoot (I couldn’t have done it alone!)
- GoPro camera to capture the behind scenes experience or the mermaid swim
What’s included in the mermaid photo shoot?
- tiara, mermaid bra & tail, fins, glitter
- 1 hour of photography
- 2 edited photos (extra edits available at €7,50 each)

What kind of mermaid photo shoots can you do and how much do they cost (summer 2018)?

- Group of 2 or more children € 40 per child
- Mother & daughter package € 90 (recommended for children under 5 years)

And the last and most important question, when will you have your edited photos? Well, couple of days after the photo shoot I’ve received a link to Dropbox where all the pictures where uploaded for me to choose the ones I would like to edit. As I already mentioned, you will receive two edited photos with some mermaid magic. 🙂 If you cannot decide and would love to have more than two, it’s possible, you will just have to pay extra €7.50 per photo. This process can take up to 3 weeks especially during this main season, so please be patient.
So this is it! Here are few of the edited photos that I’ve already received. How beautiful do I look?! Can hardly recognizing myself! And what are you waiting for? Book your Mermaid experience today with Mermeidsclub Malta.
