Beautiful Chinese Garden of Serenity
Looking to escape the busyness of your everyday life and find a place of serenity? Then get in your car, catch a bus or get on your bicycle and head towards the south of the island. Your aim is to reach the village of Santa Lucija where you can find the Chinese Garden of Serenity.
I can guarantee that once you walk into the garden you won’t believe that you are in Malta. You will feel like that you closed your eyes opened them again and find yourself in China. The garden is beautiful and very peaceful, once you are there you don’t feel like you want to pass quickly, so allow enough time to look around, sit down and contemplate. And what can you expect to see?
The Chinese gardens are idealized miniature landscapes, which are meant to express the harmony that should exist between man and nature. A typical Chinese garden is enclosed by walls and includes one or more ponds, rock works, trees and flowers, and an assortment of halls, pavilions, galleries within the garden, connected by winding paths and zig-zag bridges.
Rocks and water are the two important physical elements in a Chinese garden. They symbolize the basis of nature, yin and yang, rocks are the body of the world and the water is the world’s spirit. The Chinese Garden of Serenity symbolizes life, from birth to death.
In the picture above you can see a gallery, which is a covered narrow corridor connecting different buildings protecting visitors from the rain and sun.
Bridges are another common feature of the Chinese garden. Like the galleries they are rarely straight, as you can see this bridge has a zig-zag shape representing life’s difficulties.
I am sure you will be taken by this place just like I was. I didn’t know where to look first, it was actually quite overwhelming. Don’t forget to look down every now and then as the pathways are pretty nice too!
